Can i buy a mytouch online then put my old sim card which doesnt have a data plan, and will the mytouch work?

i am planning to buy a mytouch on ebay. then activatite with a friends sim card. then just use it with my old sim card. i dont want internet at all not even the wifi. is it possible?Can i buy a mytouch online then put my old sim card which doesnt have a data plan, and will the mytouch work?
The better question is WHY would you want the MyTouch without the data plan?

It's completely destroying the whole wow factor of using the phone if it doesn't have data.



Most companies will eventually lock your line and force you to add data if you have a Smartphone. The IMEI number is scanned on the system and is checked for the required data plan; I know AT%26amp;T does this but, not 100% sure T-Mobile does.



So, you may want to re-think this but, again - why have it if you are not going to use all of it's glorious features? You won't be able to download cool apps off the Android market and that is 50% of the appeal.



I say buy it and add the data!!! You'll be glad you did! On an individual plan, you can get 1000 anytime minutes and unlimited data %26amp; messaging for just $69.99/month or for $79.99/month you can have unlimited minutes, text and data.



If you are still against adding data, I would suggest you just get a basic phone that you will like that has either touchscreen and QWERTY keyboard like the Gravity 2 or the Gravity T.



Make sure prior to buying ANY phone off the internet that you call your network provider and give them the IMEI # to verify that it is a good and usable IMEI # (meaning, that the party selling it didn't report it stolen, etc.). It wouldn't be fun to buy something and then not be able to use it.
